Russell Allan has a conscience. Over the course of his thirty-year career, he has developed worthy places for people to live, love and grow.
Russell has initiated the restoration of numerous residential and commercial historic properties, ranging in scope and size from single-family homes to warehouse conversions and downtown condominium projects. He was recognized by the Toronto Historical Board with an award of merit for his restoration of an 1854 merchant's house in a historic downtown neighborhood.
Since 1996, Russell Allan has been actively involved in a large-scale development of lands in southwest Orlando Florida. The Villages of Lakeside, a 2,000 acre, 2,000 home site, is the first village to emerge from the vast and much anticipated Horizon West plan in southwest Orange County. Cited by county officials as an example of “wise growth management”, the Lakeside development is considered to be a future model for responsible and effective urban growth.
Russell initiated school funding agreements, public and private cost sharing, and worked with the town planners to create a self sufficient town surrounded by an environmental buffer zone, thus eliminating any future urban sprawl. Other Florida developments undertaken by Mr. Allan include a medium density condominium project in Naples, Florida, and Glen Lakes, a 3,600 acre residential golf course community in Hernando County.

In honour of this architecture, a local masonry expert has meticulously disassembled the historic Georgian-styled Culham House, brick by brick - one of the first buildings of its kind built in Collingwood - and reassembled it as the keystone of The Ridge Estates, it now serves as the Sales Centre for the development. Saving Culham House from ruin was of utmost importance to the Allan Companies' vision of and passion for the historic. The distinguished building has been renamed the George E. McRae House in honour of the builder and original owner.
